Having fun as a freelancer

By Selina Barker

I'm back. It's been a while, I was possibly hiding my head in the sand. OK, I was. Shame-faced that my career doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

But hold on, didn't I say I was going to do exactly this? Try out all sorts of different jobs. Freelance and have fun exploring what's out there, finding out the environments and jobs I love?

So what's the problem? Parents expectations and worries have something to do with it, plus that insatiable desire to impress people with what I do and the realisation that 'freelancer' doesn't carry much of a wow factor at parties.

In reality I've been having fun working as a freelancer and the Universe is still very much on my side. After a Christmas break away I wrote another wish list. One of the wishes was 'I'd like to travel around the UK, visiting different cities'. Days later in popped an email offering me the opportunity to do just that - travelling around the UK in a van setting up graduate promotions at Universities across the country.

In 3 weeks I've travelled over 1900 miles, managed teams of students from Edinburgh to Exeter, and all on my tod. I've loved it. And now...? Well, now I'm back at nothing again. Perfect space to create in.

I did spot a great looking cocktail camper van at an event that looked fun to work in. I'll check out Gumtree too and see what turns up...Oh and if anyone has any good ideas for a freelancer - let me know will you?

Will keep you posted.

Oiii! That job sounds quality.. it's all about driving round the UK in vans i reckon. I'm about to come down Brick Lane and say hello to you and Milly. I'll come up with some freelance ideas on the way. I do know this guy who's looking for someone who can drive ridiculous camper vans to festivals... let me know if you can think of anyone ;o)
